Hotel open for Games

A HIGH-end $150-million hotel tower will open in the centre of Broadbeach in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 219 room, 35-storey AVANI Hotel and Resort brand will open in early 2018 and will become the first major piece of construction currently under way in the area to open.

It is expected to be followed closely by Jupiters Hotel and Casino’s new tower.

More than 80 per cent of its rooms have already sold, with a mixture of international investors from countries including China, Singapore, New Zealand, France, Hong Kong, New Caledonia and Vietnam.

The first 10 storeys have been poured, with the rest to follow in 2017.

It is the first hotel of the international chain to open in Australia.

Dillip Rajakarier, chief executive of Minor Hotels which owns the AVANI brand, said Broadbeach was a "natural fit" for the project.

"Broadbeach is increasingly recognised as the new heart of the Gold Coast and presented as an attractive investment opportunity for our first foray into Australia," he said.

"Our hotel sits within what I would call a ‘golden triangle’, conveniently positioned between the casino, Pacific Fair and the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre."

"We are exceptionally pleased with the sales to date, which include a number of local and interstate owner-occupiers looking. "

Mr Rajakarier said the Gold Coast’s potential for investment was "undisputed" and that his company was actively seeking out further opportunities to further expand.

The hotel will feature a mixture of one and two bedroom units which were designed by local firm DBI Guest facilities in the Surf Parade project will include a landscaped terrace and Zen garden, a resident’s lounge, gymnasium, outdoor pool, meeting space and both a bar and restaurant.

Area councillor Paul Taylor said he hoped to attract further investment from international companies to the suburb.

"I am keen to see them invest more and the Gold Coast itself is now becoming known internationally as a good place to do business and this reputation will help promote the city," he said.

"I am really impressed with what they have achieved with this project so far and it is the first time they have done a hotel like this in Australia.

"It will be ready for the Games and that is an absolutely magnificent thing while I am also impressed with how it will be marketed overseas."
