Brookfield Multiplex has won the $70 million construction tender to develop Anthony Moreton Group and Pryde Group’s $150 m new Broadbeach tower.

The 35-storey The Beach apartments is the company’s latest Gold Coast project since the Hilton Surfers Paradise was complete in 2011.

Brookfield Multiplex regional manager Rod McDonald said the Gold Coast was a “major part” of its focus.

“The extent of development activity taking place at present leads us to think this will continue into the future,” he said.

Yesterday, Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk marked the turning of the first sod at Brisbane Airport’s $150m Pullman and Ibis twin hotels development from the Flynn Property Group and Scott Flynn Properties.

Watpac was awarded the $78m construction contract this year.
